In order to ensure the safety of passengers and avoid the "pull" of piston effect caused by the train running in the tunnel, which endangers the lives of passengers. To ensure the safety of passengers, the Rail Transit Department has installed safety doors on each subway platform, but this has derived another potential risk. In recent years, rail way platform safety door has caused several squeezing accidents, multiple people were injured or even dead in the accidents. These accidents has sound the warming bell.

To solve this problem, BENEWAKE has launched the "CE30 safety door foreign object detection scheme", which is used to detect the foreign object between the platform safety door and the train, to improve the safety level and to ensure the safe operation of the train.

CE30 safety door foreign object detection schem can also be applied to a variety of application scenarios: foreign object detection of train safety door, foreign object detection of elevator door, people flow statistics, etc.

一. Planar Array LiDAR

Benewake CE30 series Planar Array LiDAR sensors are designed for obstacle avoidance, could clearly detect any objects around the gap between the train door and the platform gate. CE30 works well even at extremely dark or bright condition without hurt passengers’ eyes. Unlike those short life span and high price mechanical single channel LiDAR, CE30 is fully solid-state brings higher efficiency, reliability and stability.

2. Benewake solid-state Planar Array LiDAR

CE30-C is implemented in the LiDAR solution:

CE30-C is a solid-state Planar Array LiDAR (ToF based) can output 3D point-cloud data that can normally be used to detect, locate, and avoid objects. Unlike other mechanical scanning LiDAR uses fragile rotating components, fully solid CE30-C has longer life time with higher reliability and wider vertical detection range.

CE30-C’s scenario test result is shown below:

The part selected from the red box in the point cloud diagram on the right is the point cloud feature of the cylindrical obstacle with high-reflectivity. This test scene The details of this feature are shown very well. CE30-C works very well at this scenario even without showing other similar result.

We get almost the same test result using a black cylinder instead. It is clear that CE30-C works well again.

The foot of the ‘passenger’ is clear in the right part of the figure above. CE30-C can output how passenger enter the train/elevator frame by frame. Additional algorithm may get more information using these data to get other information such as directions (getting on or off), etc.
