Application in mining industry


LiDAR is well known in the mineral industry for its precise mapping technology. Along with the automation process in the field of science & technology and the subdivision of mineral industry, LiDAR is more widely used in automation, mineral transportation, and mine car obstacle avoidance and so on. At the same time, more and more security solution providers combine LiDAR as a visual sensor with alarm system. The safety level in production process is further improved with lower cost.

Working in the mining environment, the requirements for the corresponding sensor products are stringent: High protection level, anti-interference and crosstalk, strong vibration resistance, wide operating temperature range, low power consumption and so on. At the beginning of product design, the Benewake LiDAR takes into account the application needs of the industrial field: Upgrade products to IP67 protection level, factory seismic test, a series of temperature modeling tests to enhance product stability. Through the following two classic cases, you can better understand the applications in the mineral industry.

Case 1. Mining - Safety Avoidance of Mine Trucks
When the ore is mined, the mine trolley needs to be transported outside at a uniform speed in the railroad lane.
In order to avoid collision with the vehicle during transportation Benewake TF03 long-range LiDAR sensor can be installed in the forward direction to detect the distance of the preceding vehicle or obstacles, and brake or early warning.

Case 2. Detection of ore transport-ore conveyor belt
The ore is transported by a mine trolley, then the ore is transported to the ground or crusher through a conveyor belt for processing. Installed Benewake CE30 3D LiDAR sensor, the ore can be detected and the output of analog switching quantity can be simulated. TF series single point LiDAR can be easily installed above the entrance and exit of conveyor belts in some specific mines. Rough flow statistics can also be achieved to ensure efficient conveyor belt transport.
