How Robot and Drones Solve Problems in Severe Epidemic Situation of Viral Diseases?

2020-03-06

World Health Organization (WHO) announced the global risk of coronavirus outbreak to "very high" – its top level of risk assessment. When facing the impact of viral disease, robots and drones are starting to “fight” in a real world.

Robot-Medical Robot

The first coronavirus patient was diagnosed and treated by a medical robot in the United States. The medical robot was originally developed for the Ebola virus, and the robot is fully equipped with cameras, stethoscopes, microphones, screens, other sensors and so on. The robot is used to examine patients remotely, totally ensures the safety of doctors or nurses against virus infection and prevents risking of secondary transmission of virus.

Robot-Service Robot

Some of the service robots are only marketing tools to attract customers. While controlling epidemic situation, the role of service robot is diverse now: delivery robot, advertising robot etc. The working areas where service robots can be deployed include delivering foods and meals, cleaning environment. Service robots can be operated remotely to carry out disinfection and cleaning process in the crowded areas where chances of getting infection are at peak. They can truly operate unattended and bring convenience to people in the enclosed space.

Robot-Patrol Robot

Patrol robots cooperate with the police also show their skills. These patrol robots can take turn to work 24 hours a day to prevent and control the epidemic situation in densely populated areas such as airports, railway stations and hospitals. Like drones, the patrol robot can realize voice propaganda, temperature measurement, face recognition and other tasks by carrying different equipment, which not only liberates human resources, but also ensure the people safety.

Multi-directional obstacle avoidance can be realized by equipping the robots with Benewake TFmini-S LiDAR sensor. This sensor helps the robot to quickly read the distance information of obstacles and prevent the robot from falling down, perform collision-free navigation and exploration.

Autonomous Vehicle - Unmanned Logistics Vehicle

According to China Sina Finance and Economics Media, unmanned logistics vehicle can work 24 hours without interruption through teamwork. After the outbreak of the epidemic, the daily volume of packages in the intelligent warehouse of JD Logistics has reached 1 million. Autonomous Ground Vehicle (AGV) ensures the efficient operation of material supply chain and is key technology in delivering logistics.

Autonomous Vehicle – Autonomous Delivery Vehicle

In order to reduce the risk of infection of distribution personnel and end-users, autonomous delivery vehicles can be well used. When the goods arrive at the nearest intelligent distribution station in the epidemic area, the autonomous delivery vehicles set up a best path through the map provided in the system in advance, and remind the user that goods will be arrived soon within the short time without getting in contact.

Benewake LiDAR CE30 sensor detects low and short distanced obstacles according to the demands of unmanned vehicle. CE30 customizes the obstacle avoidance area according to the vehicle’s width in the process of navigation. Of course TFmini-S obstacle sensor can also achieve multi-directional obstacle avoidance, which is accurate, stable and efficient.

Drone-Delivery Drone

It is necessary to ensure the timely and safe arrival of medical materials and people's livelihood materials at the designated place. Logistics drones once again play its important role. By deploying drones into each designated medical site and sending instructions remotely, the engineer can handle drones to deliver medicines to the site at the fastest speed. Drones will throw the goods to the specified fixed-point (coordinates) at a safe height, then immediately return to the base.

Drone-Patrol Drone

According to Qingdao news network, Qingdao has deployed more than 40 patrol drones, into the epidemic area with 2.1 million square meters to control and monitor the situation. At that time, only drones can accomplish these tasks remotely in a short time. The expert also installed infrared thermal imaging camera on the drones to realize the remote measurement of body temperature and reduce the risk of virus infection.
