Traditional Single Monitoring Methods Cannot Meet the Needs of Large-scale Security Requirements
In wide open areas, traditional video monitoring cannot capture detailed information about targets due to factors such as lighting and climate conditions, and it is unable to achieve 24-hour proactive real-time target location, tracking, target three-dimensional information, and feature image capture. Therefore, more intelligent technological measures are needed for large-scale security requirements.

Introduction of 3D LiDAR in Intrusion Monitoring Solution
This article proposes an "Lidar-Ball linkage" security monitoring solution based on the needs of large-scale infrastructure security construction. The main sensor is Benewake Horn series high-performance 3D LiDAR, which can detect targets within a radius of 180 meters. The coverage area of a single sensor can reach more than 17000 square meters, equivalent to two football fields. The solution combines LiDAR with cameras and adopts advanced point cloud analysis algorithms and image processing technologies, greatly improving accuracy and practicality.

This solution is suitable for security applications in large-scale infrastructure such as airports, ports, railways, and power plants.
01. Solution Functions
1. Improve safety and protect human life
Figure 3: Detection of pedestrians passing through an intersection using one Horn series LiDAR
2. Improve accuracy and reduce false positives and false negatives
The solution integrated with Horn series LiDAR has both 3D and 2D detection capabilities, and incorporates intelligent point cloud algorithms that can reduce the high costs of false positives and false negatives. With precise time synchronization for unified management, redundant reports can be prevented, and valuable security resources can be optimized.
3. No blind spots in the security area, with continuous operation day and night
It can detect pedestrian targets and other objects within a range of 150 meters, with a detection rate of over 98%. The Horn series LiDAR uses a 1550nm light source, which is absolutely safe for human eyes. With solid-state laser scanning, it can capture one million points per second, and the point cloud clarity can directly form high-definition 3D models. The LiDAR operates 24/7 regardless of day or night, solving the pain point that camera-based solutions are ineffective or have greatly reduced performance at night.

Note: The coverage pattern can be customized according to customer requirements
4. Strong practicality and innovation, with extended traffic statistics application
In addition to automatically identifying the location, size, and dimensions of targets, it dynamically captures the trajectory information of intruding objects, and provides real-time alerts for personnel intrusion or abnormal events within the alert area. It can also be combined with a traffic statistics solution as required by the scenario, such as managing the ship traffic from entrance A to bridge B during peak hours or analyzing traffic flow.

5. The overall cost is up to 10 times lower than similar camera-based solutions
The Horn series LiDAR can assist users in covering large areas like railways, airports, ports, and other large-scale areas in one go, requiring far fewer devices compared to traditional cameras or grids. This reduces the complex work of construction and wiring, resulting in engineering costs up to 10 times lower.
02. Solution Applications
Application A: Alert for personnel trespassing into railway track area.
Figure 6: A captured image of a person trespassing in a restricted railway area (left)
A 3D point cloud generated by a LiDAR (right)
This intrusion monitoring system utilizes the Benewake LiDAR to detect personnel entering into restricted areas. When a person enters the monitoring range, the LiDAR automatically detects and identifies their position information, and cameras focus and capture their image, which is then transmitted to the management center for outputting an alarm signal. In Figure 5, the LiDAR uses point cloud analysis to surround and box the intruding person.
Application B: Alert for personnel intrusion into dangerous areas and object falling.
Figure 7: 3D point cloud generated by a LiDAR showing a person trespassing and an object falling in a dangerous area
The LiDAR intrusion monitoring system can not only detect intruding personnel, but also target small objects in large-scale scenarios. The intelligent algorithm of the system's front end can detect the presence of people or objects in the ROI area (customized area), and immediately send out an alarm notification. The alarm delay is no more than 2 seconds. The back-end system receives and processes alarms, including sound and light reminders, storage of personnel images and alarm videos, and more.
03. Solution Composition
· Supports multiple types of sensor configurations, such as solid-state LiDARs, cameras, and other sensors, and data fusion.
· Compatible with various system connections, and can connect data to existing platform systems.

04. Implementation of Large-scale Projects
Figure 9: On-site view of a large-scale power plant project
Currently, the solution has been successfully implemented in various major functional cities nationwide.
Classic case one: A large power plant with a 35,000-tonne large ship and a coal-fired power generation capacity of nearly 5,000 MW. After the Benewake LiDAR intrusion security solution was implemented, it not only ensured the safety of the workers within the 120,000 square meters of the power generation area but also guaranteed the normal operation of the infrastructure.

The main product is the Benewake self-developed Horn series LiDAR, which is a high-performance product equivalent to 600-line laser beams. It captures one million points per second with a resolution of 1800x600 per 90-degree sector and a resolution of 0.05° x 0.05° angle. The smaller the resolution, the more accurately it can detect objects up to 300 meters away. For more information on the product, search "Benewake Official Website".
